Candidate Support

SAICE-PDP excels at guiding graduate training. We develop comprehensive training plans, provide dedicated supervision, and pair graduates with experienced mentors to ensure their success. Through this process we ensure a sustainable road map for our professionals, guiding them though the components required for sucess.

The engineering life cycle

To meet ECSA requirements, graduates need diverse experiences within the engineering lifecycle. SAICE-PDP develops tailored training plans, including rotations or secondments to consulting firms when necessary, to ensure candidates gain the practical experience needed for professional registration.

Candidate responsibilities

Graduates are expected to register as candidates with ECSA, or their relevant Professional Body or Statutory Council. On completion of tasks or projects, they are expected to write up training and experience reports and participate in reviews with their mentors and supervisors, three or four times per annum, to ensure that they are making progress. As they develop, more complex work is assigned to ensure that they develop to the level required for professional registration. The systems, procedures, and web-based reporting programmes that SAICE-PDP has developed, ensure that the candidates are constantly aware of their development, progress and levels of responsibility attained. This forms the basis for planning the next phase of their development.

Timeframes

Developing professional engineering skills takes time, typically at least three years. Success hinges on robust support, including appropriate training, challenging assignments, and competent supervision. When internal support is limited, SAICE-PDP provides crucial external guidance and mentorship to ensure timely professional development.

SAICE-PDP Needs Mentors!

We seek experienced registered professionals to mentor aspiring candidates towards professional registration with ECSA and SACPCMP.

Mentors are welcomed from across all provinces, and will be linked to candidates within their geographical location, as needed.
Mentors are expected to commit to 1-3 hours per candidate per month, to guide and support the professional development of aspiring engineers. Interaction will be online and in-person.
A reasonable hourly rate, including travel costs, is offered.
