BACKGROUND TO GCC 2025 UPDATE

After ten years of application in construction works, the General Conditions of Contract for Construction Works (GCC 2015) has been revised. The GCC 2025 document provides a more equitable allocation of risk between employers and contractors, designed specifically to address the unique challenges of the South African construction environment. The General Conditions of Contract (GCC 2025) is the fourth edition of South Africa’s standard-form construction contract, released by the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE). It replaces the GCC 2015 and is endorsed by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) for use in multi- disciplinary projects across the country. The book provides an updated and homegrown framework for managing and executing civil engineering projects, aiming to create a more relevant, practical, and fair environment for the industry.
