Jan Bierman

Jan Bierman

BEng (Civil)

Jan Bierman completed his BEng (Civil) degree at the University of Pretoria. He started his career in design and road supervision at MBS, then freelanced for consulting engineers on road construction projects as ARE and RE. He has developed a proven quality system and supervision management style after working for many Consulting Engineers over the last 25 years. He has taken many students under his wing and developed a manual for supervision staff on road projects. Jan has broad supervision experience working with a wide variety of Clients, Consultants and Contractors both big and small in urban and remote regions. He has supervised many roads and bridges all over South Africa and in Mozambique. He understands the dynamics of each type of project, supervising small to large projects and being a part of the supervision and planning team. Jan has supervised over 800km of road construction and 12 new bridges and has worked for more than 15 consulting engineers.

Andrew Brodie

Andrew Brodie

NHD in Civil Engineering BSC Degree in Civil Engineering

Andrew Brodie has an NHD in Civil Engineering and BSC Degree in Civil Engineering. He has over 20 years of experience in design, project management and supervision of civil, structural and geotechnical projects. He has worked in both the municipal and private engineering sectors and has significant experience in the design and implementation of urban and rural engineering services. He is a registered Professional Engineer and a member of SAICE.

Ken Bromfield is a registered professional engineer with ECSA and a registered professional construction project manager with SACPCMP. He has had extensive experience in the waste management field, having managed various waste management companies and worked as a consultant on tailings and waste projects for several years.
John Cato

John Cato

BSc(Civil)

John Cato completed his BSc (Civil) at the University of Kwazulu Natal and started his career at Group Five Roads. He then moved to consulting engineers and designed and supervised various infrastructure projects. He also worked in Ireland designing and implementing various water, sewer, stormwater and roads projects. Upon his return to South Africa, he implemented and supervised various water infrastructure projects from pipelines, RC reservoirs, rising mains and treatment works as well as construction of a bulk water pipeline for Rand Water. He recently supervised the construction of a bulk water pipeline for Rand Water.

Rob Childs

Rob Childs

BSc (Civil Engineering)

Rob Childs obtained his BSc Civil Engineering from Teesside University in England, a Graduate Diploma in Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Graduate Certificate in Asset Management from the Institute of Quality Asset Management. Rob is a professional engineer, project manager and infrastructure asset manager with 40 years experience in civil infrastructure and buildings in Southern Africa, the Middle and Far East, and the UK. His focus in the last 20 years has been on providing advice in the strategic management of public infrastructure and property portfolios across all sectors and spheres of government. He has contributed to a number of published infrastructure asset management guidelines, is a council member of the Southern African Asset Management Association (SAAMA), and a director of the World Partners in Asset Management (WPiAM).

Philip du Plessis

Philip du Plessis

BSC Eng (Civil) BEng Honours (Transportation)

Philip du Plessis has a BSc. Eng. (Civil) and B Eng Honours (Transportation) degree from the University of Pretoria. He worked in the municipal engineering field for 27 years specializing in roads, stormwater and transportation functions in the Springs and Ekurhuleni Metro municipalities. Philip joined the Springs Town Council in 1990 as Assistant Town Engineer and became the Springs Town Engineer in 1995. After the establishment of the Ekurhuleni Metro, he served as a Regional Director for Roads and Stormwater until 2013, he then joined the Public Transport Department to manage the planning, design and construction of the first phase of the Ekurhuleni BRT Infrastructure. Prior to joining the Springs Town Council he worked for the Transvaal Roads Department, the last five years thereof overseeing road construction and maintenance work in the Benoni region which covers the current southern Gauteng. Since leaving municipal service in 2017, he has conducted sub-consulting work and served as a mentor for SAICE-PDP’s municipal candidate technicians, technologists and engineers towards their professional registration with ECSA. He also did extensive work for Infrastructure South Africa where he assessed business plans for mega projects as a member of the Transport Technical Working Group. Philip is registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer and is a Fellow of IMESA.

Theuns Eloff

Theuns Eloff

BIng (Civil)

Theuns completed his BIng (Civil) degree at the Rand Afrikaans University and started his engineering career as a civil contractor. He was involved in the construction, rehabilitation and resurfacing of roads and has extensive experience in major earthworks, construction of dams, open cast mines and contract management.

Steward Gibson

Stewart Gibson

PrEng, Fellow of SAICE

Stewart Gibson trained and qualified as a Civil Engineer in the UK before moving to South Africa in 1974 to join a major consultancy group, eventually becoming a Group Director where his responsibilities included risk management and international tendering. After 25 years with the group, he left and formed his own company advising municipalities on ways of improving their service delivery. During this time, in addition to advising on municipal systems and contract management, he was a member of project teams implementing and monitoring several PPP style contracts. Stewart is registered with ECSA as Pr Eng and is a Fellow of SAICE, he has experience as an ECSA assessor and reviewer.

Allyson Lawless

Allyson Lawless

PrEng, DEng (hc), Hon FSAICE, FREng

Allyson Lawless is a civil engineer experienced in structural, municipal and mining engineering. In the year 2000 she became the first female president of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering, and during that year recognised the looming skills challenge. Since 2003 her career has been focused on skills development and she has published two books, Numbers and Needs, and Numbers and Needs in Local Government, which address skills shortages and the associated solutions in civil engineering and local government respectively. She is a Fellow of SAICE and experience as an ECSA assessor and reviewer.

Phathi Masimirembwa

Phathi Masimirembwa

MBA, BEng (Hons), PrTech Eng

Phathi Masimirembwa started her career in Zimbabwe where she worked for consulting engineers and a water authority before moving to South Africa, where she has gained experience in both consulting and the public sector. Her range of experience has equipped her with knowledge in planning, design and construction of roads and water services as well as private housing developments. Her passion for uplifting candidates has led her to mentoring engineering candidates in municipalities and encouraging capacity building. Phathi is a Member of SAICE and experience as an ECSA assessor and reviewer.

Orapeleng S. Moseneke

Orapeleng Moseneke completed his ND: Building Surveying at CPUT in 1993, followed by a NHD: Building Surveying in 1995. In 2001 and 2002, he completed a Certificate in Project Management in the Built Environment at UP and the Management Advancement Programme (MAP 50) at Wits Business School. In 2016 he completed the Certificate in Construction Adjudication at the University of Pretoria. With over 10 years in Construction Project Management, 15+ years in Construction Management and 5 years in Programme Management, he has worked as Contracts Manager and Building Estimator for blue chip companies, and also worked in the Public Sector with the Independent Development Trust (IDT) as Portfolio Manager and with the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) as Development Manager. His experience with SACPCMP as Assessor, Moderator and Interviewer spans over a decade.

Les Wiggill graduated from Wits University with a B.A. degree, H.Dip.Ed, and a B.Ed. (Hons) degree, majoring in Adult Education. For the past 25+ years, he has been involved in a wide range of Soft Skills Training, and he regularly offers the Technical Report Writing workshops for various professional bodies such as SAICE and other training organisations, where he has presented the course to big corporations like NER, NECSA, CSIR, Eskom, Transnet, WSP Group Africa (Pty) Ltd, and more recently for MISA through SAICE-PDP.

Susan is a seasoned organisation and people development professional. With a strong theoretical foundation in linguistics, philosophy and complexity theory, combined with practical business and life experience, she brings a unique blend of expertise to her work. Her specialisation areas are: Ethics and personal agency development, focussing on developing positive relational networks in complex adaptive human systems. Capacity building through occupationally-directed education training development.
