A Collaborative Effort
The company proudly supports the South African Youth into Engineering Programme as part of our socio-economic contribution to the industry. The lack of successful engineering graduates coupled with the lack of opportunities and funding for talented youth from rural areas, had been a concern to the engineering sector for many years. With this in mind, the 100×100 project, a predecessor to SAYEP was launched in the SAICE centenary year to identify 100 rural learners with exceptional maths skills to read for civil engineering degrees.

Our company passionately champions the South African Youth into Engineering Programme (SAYEP), igniting the future of engineering by empowering talented rural youth. For too long, the engineering sector has faced a critical shortage of skilled graduates, with brilliant minds in rural areas held back by limited opportunities and funding. Inspired by the groundbreaking 100×100 project, launched during SAICE’s centenary to sponsor 100 rural learners with exceptional math skills for civil engineering degrees, SAYEP is revolutionizing the industry.
SAYEP is a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) and registered as a Public Benefit Organisation in terms of section 18A(1)(a) of the Income Tax Act. As such, donations to SAYEP are tax deductible in the hands of the donors.
Companies looking for opportunities to increase their B-BBEE rating and wishing to support transformation of the next generation of engineering professionals, should contact SAYEP to also become supporters.
Since inception of the project in 2004, SAYEP have assisted many rural students to complete their engineering studies which otherwise would not have been possible.
Funding to support these students presents an annual challenge and SAICE-PDP is proud to support this initiative both financially, as well as by lobbying industry and the public sector for further support.
The SAYEP bursary scheme operates differently from mainstream bursaries schemes as it offers a holistic support strategy, which includes:
- Academic support where required
- Tertiary coping skills training
- Mentoring (here industry is asked to get involved and adopt a student)
- Monitoring and reporting
- Financial support
Support SAYEP and help unlock the potential of South Africa’s brightest young minds, building a stronger, more innovative future for engineering.
Together, we can bridge the gap and create lasting impact!
ADVISORY SERVICES
SAICE-PDP is well positioned to contribute or present to forums and committees, from time to time, focusing mainly on professional registration and capacity building in both the municipal space and the broader built environment.
Council for the Built Environment
CBE requested that SAICE-PDP articulate the specific responsibilities of mentors, mentees, and supervisors to ensure a clear understanding of roles and expectations. It was noted that these responsibilities can only be successfully executed if both mentors and mentees are provided with appropriate resources, i.e. contracting forms, monitoring and evaluation documents, and reporting templates to support candidates’ technical growth and facilitate their efficient progression from candidacy to professional registration. Furthermore, access to relevant training and professional development courses offered by SAICE and SAICE-PDP was highlighted. SAICE-PDP contributed to the CBE initiative by providing our experienced internal mentors, who delivered informative workshops on the respective ECSA and SACPCMP registration processes for the appointed candidates.
